All four men's quarter-finals at the Asian Games cricket competition in Nisshin, in Japan's Aichi prefecture near Nagoya, were abandoned without a ball being bowled, after rain fell across both days of the scheduled fixtures.
Under Asian Games tournament rules, the higher-seeded team in a washed-out quarter-final advances automatically to the semi-finals. That rule carried Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh through, with each of the four having entered the tournament as a seeded side.
None of Hong Kong, China, Afghanistan, Nepal or Malaysia, the lower-seeded team in each tie, progressed as a result.
Pakistan's quarter-final against Hong Kong, China, and India's quarter-final against Afghanistan were both abandoned on Monday 28 September. Pakistan and India were the higher-seeded teams in those matches.
Sri Lanka's quarter-final against Nepal and Bangladesh's quarter-final against Malaysia were abandoned the following day, Tuesday 29 September. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were the higher seeds in those ties.
Heavier rain had affected the Nagoya and Aichi prefecture region in the days before the quarter-finals were due to be played, with forecasts for later in the week more favourable.
The men's competition is being played after the Asian Games women's cricket tournament, which had already concluded earlier in September at the same Games.
The washouts set up a semi-final draw of Pakistan against Bangladesh, and India against Sri Lanka.
Under the same tournament rules, the higher-seeded team in each semi-final, Pakistan in the first and India in the second, will advance to the gold-medal match if rain again prevents a semi-final from being completed.
Both semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday 1 October 2026 at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, in Japan's Aichi prefecture near Nagoya. Pakistan play Bangladesh at 9am local Japan time, followed by India against Sri Lanka at 2pm local Japan time.
