Editorial standards
SNNI aims to be fast, fair and right. These are the rules every story on this site is held to.
Sourcing
We report news that is current. Before we publish a breaking story that we did not witness ourselves, its core facts must be confirmed by at least 3 independent, established news organisations. Reports from outlets that share an owner or syndicate the same copy count as one. Community news, which national outlets rarely cover, needs 2 independent outlets, or one outlet plus an official statement from the organisation, council or government body involved. Community stories may also be based on our own reporting and on information supplied by organisers, which we check before publishing.
Accuracy and fairness
Every name, title, score and figure is checked before publication. Quotes appear exactly as spoken or as reported. Allegations are reported as allegations, and anyone charged with an offence is presumed innocent. We do not identify people whose identities are protected by law, and we comply with court suppression orders.
Headlines
Our headlines are written to be read. They are also written to be true: a headline never claims more than the story beneath it supports.
Photographs
SNNI does not use AI-generated images. Photographs are either taken or supplied for SNNI with permission, or are published under open licences (public domain, CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA). Every photograph carries a credit naming the photographer and licence. Captions state when a photograph is a file image rather than from the event reported. Rights holders who believe an image has been credited incorrectly can contact us and we will fix or remove it promptly.
How stories are produced
SNNI uses software tools, including AI systems, to monitor news as it breaks, prepare drafts and check copy against these standards. Every story published is the responsibility of the editor, Johann Jayasinha.
Independence
SNNI does not accept payment for news coverage. Any sponsored content will be clearly labelled as such. We do not publish betting odds or gambling promotions.
Corrections and complaints
When we get something wrong we correct it quickly and note the correction on the story. Anyone who believes information in a story is inaccurate can ask in writing for it to be corrected or removed.
