Nic Maddinson will captain the NSW Blues for the first time in 11 years when they face Tasmania in a Sheffield Shield match starting Friday at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
Maddinson takes over the leadership from Lachlan Shaw, who captained the side in last week's match against Western Australia in Perth. Maddinson last led NSW on six occasions during the 2015/16 season.
Maddinson returns to state duty after featuring in the Australian Test squad's series in South Africa.
Cricket NSW has made several changes to the squad for the Hobart match. Bryce Jackson has been recalled after making his first-class debut against Tasmania earlier this month.
Josh Philippe and Tanveer Sangha have both dropped out of the squad. Jack Edwards is being managed and will not play the red-ball match.
The NSW squad for the match is Nic Maddinson (captain), Sean Abbott, Oliver Davies, Ben Dwarshuis, Liam Hatcher, Ryan Hicks, Bryce Jackson, Sam Konstas, Kurtis Patterson, Will Salzmann, Liam Scott and Lachlan Shaw.
Play begins at Bellerive Oval at 10.30am AEDT on Friday, October 30, with the match scheduled to run through to Monday, November 2. The contest will be broadcast on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
