Former Test opener Ed Cowan has been elected to the Cricket Australia Board as the Cricket NSW nominated Director, following a vote at the governing body's Annual General Meeting on October 28.

Cricket NSW chairman John Knox congratulated Cowan on the appointment, saying he had been an outstanding director for the state body.

"On behalf of our state's cricket community, I congratulate Ed on his election to the Cricket Australia Board as the Cricket NSW nominated Director," Knox said.

Under Australian Cricket's governance requirements, Cowan has resigned from the Cricket NSW board, where he served as a non-executive director for seven years.

Cowan joined the Cricket NSW board in 2019, a year after retiring from first-class cricket. He played 18 Tests for Australia and spent 15 years as a first-class cricketer with NSW and Tasmania before his career ended in 2018.

Knox said Cowan had provided strong and thoughtful leadership for the game during his time on the Cricket NSW board.

"Ed has been an outstanding Director for CNSW, providing strong and thoughtful leadership for our game on behalf of our Members," Knox said.

Knox said Cowan's cricketing background would serve him well in his new role at the national level.

"His deep intellect and understanding of cricket, from grassroots to elite performance and the game's strategic future, will make him an asset to the CA Board for the benefit all in Australian cricket," Knox said.

Cricket NSW will now move to fill the vacancy left on its board by Cowan's departure.
