Virat Kohli's unbeaten 139 against West Indies has moved him to second in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings, closing to within 20 rating points of India captain Shubman Gill, according to the International Cricket Council's latest weekly update.
Kohli's innings, an 88-ball century in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, helped India chase down a target of 296 with 50 deliveries to spare. It was his record-extending 55th ODI hundred and took him past 15,000 runs in the format.
Before the match Kohli trailed Gill by 34 rating points. Gill's century in the same innings lifted his own tally to 816, but Kohli's knock pushed his rating from 767 to 796, cutting the gap to 20 points and overtaking New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell into second place.
The ICC said Kohli's rating points are now his highest since July 2022. He was briefly ranked third for three days in January 2026, but has otherwise spent 1,547 days at number one in the format, a tally bettered only by West Indian greats Vivian Richards and Brian Lara.
In the same update, Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis rose to a career-best seventh position in the batting rankings after scoring 198 runs in the series against England. England's Tom Banton, who made 126 off 105 balls in the third ODI to be named player of the match, jumped 333 places to finish the series ranked 83rd.
England's Ben Duckett moved up four places to 15th. In South Africa's series against Australia, Matthew Breetzke rose 19 places to 21st after a century in the series opener in Durban, and David Miller returned to the rankings in 41st position following a century in Johannesburg. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma advanced 10 places to 32nd after scoring a century in the second ODI as his side took a 2-0 series lead over Australia. Will Jacks climbed six places to 71st and Marco Jansen rose 42 places to 87th.
The bowling rankings also shifted. South Africa's Keshav Maharaj took six wickets in the two ODIs against Australia to rise three places to third, while India's Kuldeep Yadav, who took 4-40 in Thiruvananthapuram, moved up four places to fifth. Australia's Josh Hazlewood returned to the bowling top 10 after taking three wickets at the Wanderers.
Sri Lanka's Dunith Wellalage climbed 12 places to 26th, Nathan Ellis rose two places to 15th, West Indies' Jayden Seales moved up four places to 22nd and India's M. Prasidh Krishna advanced six places to 42nd.
The ICC said the update accounted for the final two matches of the England-Sri Lanka series, the first two matches of the South Africa-Australia series, and the opening India-West Indies match in Thiruvananthapuram.
