Sydney Thunder beat Brisbane Heat by six wickets at Drummoyne Oval on Sunday, chasing down 179 to post their second straight win to start Weber WBBL|12.
Heather Knight finished unbeaten on 54 to guide the home side over the line in their first match at Drummoyne Oval this season, and was named Player of the Match.
Thunder bowled first and were set 179 to win, the highest total ever posted in a WBBL match at the ground.
Skipper Phoebe Litchfield set the tone with 41 from 19 balls at the top of the order. Anika Learoyd added 37 off 28 deliveries and Laura Harris made a rapid 35 from 16 balls as Thunder kept pace with the required rate through the middle overs.
Knight anchored the chase, finishing unbeaten to see her side home with wickets in hand.
Learoyd said the win built on the momentum Thunder had taken from their opening victory away from home.
"I think in this competition, momentum is a real winner so for us to win away and then win at home is really exciting," Learoyd said.
She credited Knight for steadying the chase after the brisk starts from the top order.
"We had the right people step up when we needed them to and that was so crucial for us," Learoyd said. "Heather was on fire today, she's such a stable and consistent performer and it's certainly what has helped us over the last three years, she's always been someone that we can depend on for runs."
The result moves Thunder to two wins from two matches to open the tournament, following an earlier away victory before the Brisbane Heat clash.
Thunder are back at Drummoyne Oval on Thursday, November 5, to host Perth Scorchers from 7.10pm AEDT, before matches against Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval on November 8 and a return fixture against the Scorchers at the WACA Ground on November 11.
