Members of a multicultural cricket committee met over lunch at Mrs Tran's Kitchen in Mentone on Saturday to discuss ways to grow multicultural participation in Victorian cricket at club level.
The gathering brought together Ken Jacobs OAM, who served as chief executive of Cricket Victoria from 1980 to 2007, and Andrew Kane, president of the McKinnon Cricket Club. The lunch was hosted by Howie Tran, chief executive of Mrs Tran's Kitchen and a member of the multicultural cricket committee.
Discussions centred on strengthening cricket pathways at club level, expanding participation among multicultural communities, and improving opportunities for women's cricket, according to the committee.
Jacobs was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2009 for his services to cricket and the community. The honour came two years after he stepped down from Cricket Victoria, having overseen a long period of growth in the sport across the state.
The committee said it looked forward to working collaboratively to support grassroots cricket and create inclusive programs that reflect the diversity of the sporting community.
