University Blues beat Old Xaverians by four points to win the 2026 VAFA William Buck Premier Men's Grand Final, played at Revo Fitness Park on Sunday, September 27.
Former AFL player James Stewart, who finished the season as the competition's leading goalkicker, played in the winning side. Stewart was shown visibly emotional after the final siren in a post shared to Instagram by KommunityTV.
The result capped a tense afternoon of finals football to close out the VAFA season. Both clubs had earlier met in the curtain-raiser, the Premier Men's Reserves Grand Final, where Old Xaverians turned the tables on their seniors' conquerors.
Old Xaverians beat University Blues by 17 points in that match to claim their sixth consecutive William Buck Premier Men's Reserves premiership, according to the VAFA.
Elsewhere on grand final weekend, the Fitzroy Thirds Division 2 Men's Premiership cup was taken around to visit other Lions premiership sides, the VAFA said in its season-ending wrap.
The association published its results and highlights in a post titled "Socials Wrap: Week 24" on the VAFA website on Monday, September 28, marking the end of the 2026 season.
The VAFA said matches from the William Buck Premier Men's and Women's grades, along with Premier B and C Men's, remain available to watch on demand via VAFATV. Full results from the weekend are available through GYG, with further reports to follow on the VAFA website.
