Toby Greene signs three-year deal with Geelong as free agent

The three-time All-Australian departs Greater Western Sydney after 15 seasons and 282 games, with the Giants to receive a second-round compensation pick currently slated at pick No. 26.

Toby Greene, 33, has completed his move from the Greater Western Sydney Giants to the Geelong Cats as an unrestricted free agent, confirmed on Friday, 2 October 2026.

The move is the first major deal of the 2026 AFL free agency period, which opened on Friday. Greene has signed a three-year contract to join the Cats.

Greene spent 15 seasons at the Giants, playing 282 games and kicking 450 goals for the club.

He served as GWS captain from 2022 through to the end of the 2026 season.

Over his career, Greene was named an All-Australian three times and won the club's best-and-fairest award twice.

Geelong confirmed the signing in a statement published on its website.

Greene cited family reasons for his decision to return to his native Victoria.

At his new club, Greene reunites with close friend and former Giants teammate Jeremy Cameron.

GWS will receive a second-round compensation pick for losing Greene to free agency, currently slated at pick No. 26.
