Horton-Milne and Bertagno headline SFNL's 2026 best and fairest night

Clubs across the Southern Football Netball League gathered to honour the best players of the season, with two awards split between joint winners.

The Southern Football Netball League handed out its 2026 Best and Fairest awards on Friday night, with Chris Horton-Milne taking out the Division 1 Seniors men's football medal and Ash Bertagno claiming the top women's football honour in Division 1.

Two awards were shared rather than won outright. Lawson Daniels and Billy Watterston split the Division 2 Reserves men's football best and fairest, while Charli Morgan and Jess Hardy shared the E2 Grade netball award.

In the men's football competition, Toby Plant won the Division 2 Seniors medal, Callum Cusack took out Division 3 and Coren Giliam claimed the Division 4 award. Adjei Boahene was named best and fairest in the Friday night Open Grade competition, with Mitchell Brown taking the honour on the Saturday.

The women's football awards continued through the grades, with Maggie Collins winning Division 2 and Kira Wetzel taking the Division 3 medal.

Netball's top awards went to Lauren Hucker in A1 Grade, Marley Haenga in A2, Priya Bowen in A3 and Laura Walker in A4, rounding out the premier grades across the code.

The league thanked clubs, volunteers, officials, sponsors and supporters for their contribution to the 2026 season in its recap of the night, published on the SFNL website on October 5.

The competition, which fields 42 teams across men's football, women's football and netball, was founded in 1963 as the South East Suburban Football League before adopting its current name. Lee Hartman serves as the league's chief executive.
