The Carlton Blues defeated the Hawthorn Hawks by 12 points in a rain-affected AFLW round eight match at Ikon Park in Carlton North on Thursday night, winning 5.6 (36) to 3.6 (24).
Carlton led from the first term, surging three goals clear by quarter-time and never relinquishing the advantage for the rest of the match.
Wet and rainy conditions were a feature of the match throughout, at Ikon Park.
Hawthorn's best period of the match came in the third quarter, when Poppy Stockwell and Kaitlyn Ashmore kicked back-to-back goals to close the margin.
Carlton responded with two goals either side of three-quarter time to restore its buffer, and the margin held to the final siren.
Carlton's 5.6 (36) was built from five goals and six behinds, while Hawthorn's 3.6 (24) came from three majors and six behinds of its own.
Irish forward Erone Fitzpatrick was among Carlton's best, kicking two goals to go with 26 disposals. Sophie McKay, Dayna Finn and Sherar rounded out the Blues' goalkicking for the match.
Stockwell finished with two goals for Hawthorn, while Ashmore added the other major for the Hawks. Between them, the pair accounted for all three of Hawthorn's goals.
Carlton captain Abbie McKay finished with a game-high 33 disposals and six clearances. Fitzpatrick added 26 disposals of her own.
Whitfort, Hill and Scholz were also named among Carlton's best players. For Hawthorn, West, Wales, Richardson, Stockwell, Stone and Fleming were listed among the best afield in a losing effort.
Only 14 marks were taken between the two teams in the opening quarter, and the match produced 52 tackles in total.
The fixture also doubled as Carlton's annual AFLW Carlton Respects themed match at Ikon Park.
The result lifts Carlton to six wins and two losses for the season, placing the club third on the AFLW ladder.
Hawthorn's defeat leaves the club at four wins and four losses, outside the top eight, with four home-and-away games remaining in the season.
